Lifesaving Sports is an athletic activity involving physical effort and skill in which an individual, team or crew competes against others. The activity can be recreational or competitive, is capable of achieving a result, and is governed by a set of rules issued by the International Life Saving Federation. Lifesaving as a sport where lifesavers compete based on skills, speed and teamwork. Lifesaving activities specialized in oceanic environment is called surf lifesaving.

Lifesaving Sport is one of the world’s most demanding, multi-disciplinary sport; combining athletic ability with lifesaving skills and rescue equipment. Lifesaving Sport is unique because it is the only sport in which skills are learned for humanitarian purposes and then applied to competition.
